The new freedom in automation
With our automation toolkit ctrlX AUTOMATION, developed on the principle of the “smartphone for industrial automation”, we took a radical step towards openness in automation back in 2020. In 2021, the leap from an open platform to an industrial ecosystem was achieved. After all, co-creation is the future – the best innovations only come about with bundled domain knowledge and solution competence. In recent months, we’ve been working hard to develop the next products and solutions.

Bosch Rexroth breaks new ground with the planar system ctrlX FLOW6D
Planar systems offer enormous potential for a variety of industry segments. With ctrlX FLOW6D, Bosch Rexroth has raised contactless high-performance transport and positioning to a new level. Free-floating transport platforms, so-called movers, are moved on a horizontal, vertical or overhead working surface. Each mover acts in six degrees of freedom at high speed and with great precision – without any friction or pollution. Integration into the automation toolkit ctrlX AUTOMATION results in an overall solution with a compact control system and apps to increase the range of functions.

Bosch Rexroth presents ctrlX OS: Operating system now available for third parties
With the automation toolkit ctrlX AUTOMATION and the principle of the “smartphone for the world of industrial automation”, Bosch Rexroth signaled a paradigm shift in the market back in 2020. In 2021, the leap from an open platform to an industrial partner network was achieved with the ctrlX World. Now Bosch Rexroth is taking the next step as regards freedom and openness: In the past, the real-time-capable, Linux-based operating system was used exclusively on the control system ctrlX CORE. However, it is now available as a separate solution for industrial environments. ctrlX OS can be used on all levels – from the field level to the cloud, and on a range of different hardware.

Bosch Rexroth strengthens its presence in North America with a new plant in Mexico
Bosch Rexroth, one of the world’s leading suppliers of drive and control technologies, will expand its presence in North America: A new plant is being built in Queretaro, Mexico. Bosch Rexroth has been successfully operating in Mexico for 40 years. In Queretaro, local production capacities for the manufacture of products and components for mobile applications as well as for factory automation will be increased from summer 2023, and there is space for further growth. Bosch Rexroth will invest some 160 million euros in the new site. The aim is to strengthen local production for the North American market and thus be able to serve customers even better and more efficiently in the future.
Plastics sector pioneers sustainable drive concepts
Manufacturers of plastics machines are traditionally pioneers for new drive concepts which improve performance and energy efficiency. Variable-speed pump drives for example were first installed on a large scale in injection molding machines. The first electrohydraulic drive systems for controlled gap adjustment and closing movements were used in extrusion and blow molding machines.

Linear robots now even more versatile
Bosch Rexroth has expanded its portfolio of linear robots for various applications in factory automation by adding new axis combinations and sizes. The much wider range of working areas and loads makes the Cartesian subsystems also suitable for applications like battery handling or intralogistics. The linear robots can be selected and sized quickly and easily thanks to predefined axis combinations. They can then be configured and finalized online and ordered as preassembled subsystems – optionally with controllers for the new ctrlX AUTOMATION platform. Each multi-axis system is also available as a Smart Function Kit for handling or dispensing. Preinstalled software then allows even quicker commissioning and intuitive programming. This significantly reduces the engineering time.
